I loved reading this. Thank you for it. If you haven’t seen ‘My Brilliant Friend’ I’d highly recommend it. There are 4 series.

Ooh no I haven't. What channel is it on? I've just finished bingewatching Merlin lol so I need something else.

There are various places. Apple TV and Now TV and you probably have to pay. The first episode might be on YouTube so you can have a taster. Despite having to pay it’s truly fabulous and worth every penny

Kim, this is such a clear description of the difficult, dangerous, delicious dance between mother and wild daughter. Thank you for writing so honestly and with such clarity. The writing and the parenting bleeding into each other...yes. And it is different for mothers I think.

Thank you Sara for your response. I realised this morning I post late at night because it's less terrifying - I'm so tired by that point that I can pretend I don't care if it's boring/rubbish/inane so it was so lovely to see your response this morning x

Oh what a lovely post…I can really resonate with that beginning of the year feeling in September…the smell of Autumn seems to be in the air from the middle of August…it always carries a certain poignancy and excitement. What a wonderful gift you and your daughter are to each other…it is so special to see that growing. Having had a very poor, fractured and erratic relationship with my own mother I wonder how she felt about the gift of a child….perhaps it was more of a burden for her. You must excuse my meanderings but your words really hit the spot this morning…thanks for that.

Thank you Tina. Adrienne Rich says that every child needs 'the care of someone for whom she is "a miracle"' and of course this is true - I know you have also written beautifully about the fractured relationship between mother and daughter x
