Well, that's done it! You've ruined my bank balance no, Kim, even if yours is OK!!! I came to Patricia through Incendiary Art and was blown away by it, but I lost sight of her after that (so many brilliant poets, so many brilliant collections). Now, after reading this wonderful account of your experience of reading and the quotations you've offered, I'm gonna have to back to the beginning and start with that first collection. Then the second, third...
I'm off to the Poetry Library again, being mindful of MY bank balance. The poems about black lives and deaths reminded me of a fabulous theatre piece I saw recently: Dreamscape. Hip hop with dance about Tyisha Mills who was shot and killed by police while asleep in her car. 12 bullets, each described as part of the autopsy report:
The staging for Dreamscape features only two actors, two chairs, and one hand-held mic. The play opens with Myeisha seated, staring at the audience. We don’t know it yet, but she’s sitting in the car on the night of December 28th. She asks,
Ever have one of those dreams

Just to say thanks for the heads up re Polly Atkins. I went and got one of her collections from the poetry library yesterday and it's excellent. Sorry I can't afford to buy every collection and have to use the library when I can...
Hi Lindy - that's great that you managed to get a copy from the library! If authors are registered for PLR every time someone takes one of our books out of a library we get a little bit of money and then once a year you get a statement which tells you how many times your book has been borrowed - so taking a book out of a library is guaranteed to put a smile on an author's face!

Ha amazing Bob! That will keep you busy the rest of the year!
I’m reviewing this at the moment, such an incredible book
It’s so good isn’t it? I love the little prefaces as well where she talks about how her craft is changing/developing
